To get started you will need to gather some basic supplies.
Now that we have our supplies we can begin. First make sure your work area is well cleaned and sanitized. It is best to do your inoculation in from of a flow hood or in a still air box. If neither of these are available to you, inoculation can still be successfully completed. Avoid inoculating in a room with fans blowing air or heat and or air conditioning running., and or carpeting if possible. Dust and air born spores surround us all day, every day, we just cant see them. Keeping that in mind it is best to follow the procedure stated above.
Remove the liquid culture syringe from the bag it arrived in. It is best practice to lightly wipe off the syringe with rubbing alcohol.
Very carefully remove the tan colored cap on the liquid culture syringe. Twist the needle into the syringe tip until it stops turning.
Using rubbing alcohol or the equivalent clean the injection port are for inoculation. Do not use a bleach solution for this, only rubbing alcohol.
Very carefully insert the needle into the self healing injection port. Depress the plunger on the syringe using 3-5cc of liquid culture.
Carefully remove the liquid culture syringe and secure the needle. If you have left over liquid culture it can be stored in room temperatures for up to 6 months. Keep out of direct sunlight and keep storage temperatures under 72F/22C if possible.
It is best to semi inflate the bag by pulling gently on opposite gussets on the bag to draw a small amount of air in through the filter patch. Mix the bag slightly be massaging the bag with your hands.
Allow the sterilized grain bag to sit up rite in normal room temperatures. Depending on the stain of mushroom you are growing it can take anywhere from 5 to 14 days to see germination from the inoculation date. In general expect to wait 3-4 weeks for your grains to fully colonize.
